Solar-Powered Cold Storage Facility Increase Shelf Life of Vegetables in Nueva Ecija

Updated: Mar 26

As much as 42% of vegetables produced in the Philippines are lost due to poor postharvest facilities.  The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has extended assistance to the Provincial Government of Nueva Ecija to help reverse the situation.

Solar Solution for Agri Sustainability: The project is a 24-kwp solar-powered cold storage system in Nueva Ecija Agri-Pinoy Trading Center (NEAPTC) located in Barangay Caalibangbangan, Cabanatuan City.  One Renewable constructed the grid-tied solar PV system under a net metering arrangement to maximize the solar energy generated through the cold storage facility.

Impact on Local Agriculture:  Refrigeration can increase shelf life of vegetables in cold storage. The facility will benefit more than 300 members of the Nueva Ecija Fruits and Vegetable Marketing Cooperative (NEFVMC).
